چکیده

APRIL 2010 I ENDOVASCULAR TODAY I 25 E ntrapment of the left renal vein (LRV) between the abdominal aorta and superior mesenteric artery (SMA) causing the classic clinical triad of hematuria, varicocele, and left abdominal or flank pain was first described in 1950.1 Later, this array of symptoms was termed “the nutcracker syndrome” by De Schepper in 1972.2 Endovascular technology has evolved as a potential minimally invasive therapy for relief of symptoms caused by this compression syndrome. We report a case of successful percutaneous LRV stenting for treating nutcracker syndrome and review the current literature.

Extravascular stent management for migration of left renal vein endovascular stent in nutcracker syndrome

BACKGROUND Nutcracker syndrome is an entity resulting from left renal vein compression by the aorta and the superior mesenteric artery, which leads to symptoms of hematuria or left flank pain. The alternative option of endovascular or extravascular stenting is very appealing because of the minimal invasive procedures. Stents in the renal vein can cause fibromuscular hyperplasia, proximal migrat...

A novel hybrid left renal vein transposition and endovascular stenting technique for the treatment of posterior nutcracker syndrome

Posterior nutcracker syndrome occurs when a retroaortic left renal vein becomes compressed between the abdominal aorta and the lumbar spine. Although open surgical approaches remain the treatment of choice, endovascular stenting has been used successfully. We describe a case of a 28-year-old man who presented with microscopic hematuria, left-sided flank pain, and testicular swelling. Computed t...

Macroscopic Haematuria in a 15-year old Male: A Case of Nutcracker Syndrome Managed by Endovascular Stenting

Nutcracker Syndrome (NCS) is the compression of the left renal vein between the aorta and superior mesenteric artery. NCS is a rare cause of haematuria in children and its treatment remains controversial. In this paper, we report the case of a 15-year old boy with macroscopic haematuria diagnosed as NCS using renal angiography. After two years of conservative management, endovascular stenting w...

Current management approach for left renal vein entrapment syndrome: the so-called ‘Nutcracker’ syndrome

1Brigham & Womens Hospital, Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, 75 Francis St., Boston, USA E-mail: [email protected] Nutcracker syndrome, or more accurately, left renal vein (LRV) entrapment syndrome, refers to an abnormally narrow angle between the superior mesenteric artery and abdominal aorta leading to symptomatic compression and distal dilatation of the LRV as it traverses b...

Left renal vein transposition for treatment of the Nutcracker syndrome.

The nutcracker syndrome refers to compression of the left renal vein between the aorta and the superior mesenteric artery, which results in renal vein and left gonadal vein varices. Herein, we report our experience with left renal vein transposition for treatment of the nutcracker syndrome. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of the left renal vein transposition for tr...
